Re:Brake Upgrade

Thinking about upgrading the brakes on my '53 plate JLX.
Vented discs at front and drum to disc conversion at rear.
Will only be using the vehicle on public roads.

You might be interested in trying EBC Green Stuff pads in the front first, they give a higher braking force, a bit quicker and less cost than the disc conversion, see the same thread above.

As you only want to use your Jimny for normal road use, I personally don't believe you will gain any benefit from either conversion. If you wanted it for "green lane" use, then a disc brake conversion for the rear has merit as it removes the never ending problem of extra wear and tear promoted by mud in the drum. A vented disc conversion will not give you better braking unless you are a consistent heavy user or haul an overloaded un-braked trailer. I don't use them myself as my pads have only done 11,000 miles, but the "Green Stuff" pads mentioned by DrRobin have had good reviews and may be your best option.

The added bonus of the rear disc conversion is, if you are doing the work yourself, it's so much easier to install new wheel bearings, as they don't seem to last that long
