That's quite clever, I especially like the gull wings. My only question would be, and it's the same with all fixed systems, how much weight is being sacrificed to the system itself?

Replacing the rear quarter-glass with lightweight aluminium or plastic panels would save a few kg per side. Assuming the interior panelling is plywood then 4mm veneered plywood is ~7Kg per 8x5 sheet. You'd probably use half a sheet per side, plus a bit more for framing, hinges, clasps, etc.

With the weight you save on the glass I'd imagine there's not actually that much weight increase. But yeah, depends on the thickness of the panelling, framing, etc.

I actually did the first part of all this last year and replaced the rear glass with a hinged 4.5mm polypropylene sheet. The plastic weighs about 1kg plus maybe 0.5kg for the weather stripping, hinges, etc. Glass weighs maybe 5-6kg (although that's a bit of a guess).

I'm also saving a bit of weight removing the plastic liner, rear seat belts, seats, rear carpets, etc.
It all adds up.

...this is how far I've got on my own truck.
