Alternator was created by Donovan
Hi there,
a quick backstory, I have been on leave and haven’t started my Jimny for about 7 weeks. Came back and battery flat. Ran the good old jumpers and it fired up. After about a minute there was a wonderful crackling and a lovely Smokey aroma coming from in and around the alternator. The little engine then died a sudden death. It would not turn over again, not even a little solenoid click. Checked ignition fuse and that’s blown. The fuse contacts are stuck in the fuse box so I will need to figure that out later. Does this sound like a burnt out alternator, and if so does anybody in the Hampshire region have one for sale for a W Reg Jimny. Any help would be awesome.
thanks kindly
Donovan

Sounds like the alternator is going to be a good place to start looking that and the associated wiring. Don't know of any reconditioning places but there's going to be somewhere that can.

If cash is tight and secondhand scarce try find a local auto electric repair shop. I've had my Land Rover alternator tested and repaired for about £25 locally.
I would also put emphasis on checking the wiring associated with the charging circuit as mentioned by Lambert. The stuck and blown fuse may indicate possible heat damage to the cable insulation caused by the high current. Check it over before you reconnect anything.
Of course don't forget your flat battery, try to charge it and get it tested (for free) at any Halfords. No association (now), just aware they have Yuasa battery testers that can work on/off the vehicle and it's a free service if you ask.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)
