My back box is on the way out, the car passed it's MOT a few weeks ago, it isn't leaking yet but it has a big rust patch on the back box so won't be long.

I had a look to see what I can get and found this back box made by EEC (ESZ106), in 409 Stainless

Problem is it is only up to 2005.  Does anyone know if the design changed after 2005?  It looks like there was another change in 2012?

I also found the CAT pipe and connecting pipe in 409 Stainless from EEC and also BM Catalysts for not much money.  I put BM Cats on my other car, they looked well made.

The design changed a number of times AND if your Jimny has had a new exhaust fitted in the past then it may have had a different design fitted anyway.

This is because if the entire system is changed, front to back, you can fit every variation of exhaust (I believe, at least 90% of exhausts anyway!) This is because the mounts end to end are in the same position.

However, if you change PART of the exhaust you have to buy a part that matches the remainder ot the exhaust. This is because the JOINTs in different exhausts are in different positions, mainly involving the rear box. Some rear boxes have the joint at the box and some have a pipe elbow attached which means the joint is further down the pipe.

The spring loaded joint also varies slightly (different diameter of joint gasket) and the direction of one of the mounting hooks switches over.

So in summary, entire system change should be ok, part system change you have to get matching parts

Thanks Martin,

I have just compared pictures of the EEC (to 2005) and the inlet pipe comes stright out of the box whereas the back box for the exhaust from 2005 to 2012 does indeed have an elbow. I think mine has an elbow.

I was thinking about replacing the CAT pipe at the same time and the connecting pipe is only £25, so that would be the complete system, except the manifold pipe, which I assume is the same for these years as only 1 is listed?

I will have to get under the vehicle at the weekend and have a very good look.

My 2009 had the elbow as per picture, as OEM fitted.
