Engine stalls or stumbles when press accelerator from idle

I took the inlet hose off the throttle body and gave it a good squirt of carb cleaner/rub down with shop towels. Also directed spray into the IAC valve inlet (in the throttle body). Not much carbon in there - just a bit in the low flow areas by the butterfly spindle at each end. Tried to clean the side of the butterfly too.
Also cleaned the return spring and open/shut the butterfly actuator a few times. Unplugged/plugged the TPS, IAC and MAF connectors.
(Think removing MAF while engine running caused engine light to come on and engine to conk but it cleared after a few stop/start cycles).
Problem was there before I started fiddling and is definitely gone for now - did a short 8mile round trip to warm it up. I realise that another symptom I had was jerkiness when taking foot of accelerator during normal driving - ie going from engine pulling to coasting. Much smoother now.
Fingers crossed . . . .

Thanks for your quick advice/ideas.

That’s good news, let’s hope it stays that way. Now you can enjoy your super smooth Jimny.

Not systematic enough for me and my OCD I'm afraid. Anyway good to hear it's fixed.

How do you mean Lambert?

You'd have done one thing at a time - eg move actuator/lube spring and test, then move on to clean butterfly and test, then clean iac inlet and test, then each electrical connector plug etc?

I didn't really expect to get a result (if it lasts) with such minimal interventions so was just giving it all a quick clean down to rule out easy fixes before considering more involved actions.

I'll be very happy if it does last though!

When I'm fault finding I if possible perform a repair and then check for improvement. Eg un/plug a sensor and see if it runs better then repeat on another sensor eliminating options one at once. Like I said though I get a bit OCD about this and I understand I am not normal.
