Hi everyone, Although I have been following big Jimny for some time this is my first post. I have developed an electrical fault on my old 1998 Jimny.
The car starts, no problem but the engine cuts out after few miles and I cannot get her started again. She cranks over ok but will not fire up. If I leave her for a while she will start but ocasional miss fires and stops again. I have noticed that sometimes i turn the key and cant hear the fuel pump kick in. I was stuck in a remote area and could not get her started, so i dissconnected the battery and waited a while, hopeing it would reset the electrical system, this worked and got me home with an occasional missfire, but she cut out again when i got home and would not start again. I sure its a sensor or ecu problem and would be very greatful for any help to get this sorted. I am mechanically competetant but lost with electrcal.
many thanks in advance for any help.
Regards Gareth
Hi and Welcome,
The cam or crank position sensor (cam sensor on your particular model) is the first thing to check. The engine relies on the signal to know the speed and position of the engine. They are known to overheat, so they work fine until the engine is warm and then start to cutout. This doesn't leave an error code unfortunately.
Next time it happens locate the sensor and tip some cold water over it and try to start the engine. If it starts the sensor is your problem.
