Hi
Please excuse the newbie question.
I had read that a standard geared Jimny doesn’t really like running with tyres of 235/75/15 or above.
I just wondered if an early auto model (2001) would fair better with this or not? Does any one have any experience of this?
Not really looking to do serious off-roading with it .

Welcome to the forum. The standard automatic will not like having big tyres any more than a clutch in a manual will. It will produce a massive amount of heat from the torque converter which will cook the transmission fluid and damage the solenoids. You would need to fit a lower geared transfer box and or differentials and run an upgraded or additional transmission cooler.

A major plus one on your final comment Lambert. Additional cooling (along with monitoring temperature) aren't mentioned nearly enough when talking about the auto trans on the Jimny.

Even if you add additional gearbox fluid cooling, you're not really solving the problem of it being geared too high and all you're doing is helping it to cope.
You still need to address the gearing with a Rocklobster or lower gearset in the standard transfer box.
Why go to 235/75/15 if you aren't going to do any proper off roading?
Go 215/75/15 as a good compromise.
