2019 Jimny - Real Life Experience + Feedback

For many years I've been buying Lidl Ultimate Speed All-Weather Car Mat Sets for every car I've owned.
These heavy rubber mats have lips moulded into them and a variety of cutting lines. This means that with a bit of thought you can fit them to most cars such that they retain water from your boots. The weight stops them moving about too much and they last about 2-3 years before the driver's mat wears through. Then, as they're cheap, about £10 a set, you replace them. They're not always in store so buy 2 sets when you see them.
Sadly the most recent set have been lighter and more rigid, less grippy. I suspect a cheaper, less rubbery material is being used. If anyone knows of a better "one size fits all" rubber mat that is suitable for the 2019 Jimny then I'm sure we would all like to hear about it.

At the risk of this becoming a mat discussion, the best rubber mats l have used by far, are the ones available for Land Rover Defenders. The one on my drivers side is showing no signs of wear, l fitted it at 56,000 miles and the Defender has now done 122,000.

You could buy a pair and cut them down to fit the Jimny, although you would lose at least some of the rubber edges so it wouldn't retain water so well. The Land Rover originals are expensive, but Britpart do alternatives at around £35 for a pair that are just as good and don't have the "Land Rover" logo on them.

I'm very happy with my rubber (plastic?) mats. Only done nearly 12000 miles but there's hardly a mark on them and I wear tungsten carbide studded wading boots from time to time when driving between fishing marks.

Bill, I like the sound of the carbide studded boots (good on wet rock I take it). Post a pic of the soles would you please? Chris
