Hi all ok so got an auto I am getting a bit worried about using the 4wd on it used it on the farm fields track ok .but I I am worried when the snow comes live on a lane so no snowploughs go up it so yes I no I can put it in 4wd but do I have to keep stopping to take it out of 4wd when road I’d clear of snow and then stop again to put it back in 4wd when I come across now on the road hope makes sense any advice would be great before the snow comes. On the farm I just put it in 4wd and leave it many thanks dawn

You can put it into 4wd at up to 60mph on a straight road, and take it out again - there should be instructions on the sun visor. Makes it really simple.

Jimnys dont have a central diff, which means the transfer box can be damaged by continued driving on grippy surfaces in 4x4. Short distances on and off tarmac are ok in 4x4, but dont leave it there.
You need to take it out of 4x4 but its not necessary to stop to do that (between 4 high and 2 high). You only need to stop if its in 4 Low. I believe you can change from 2 to 4 high box (or vice versa) at up to 60mph, certainly easy enough at low speeds.
This does mean you need to be careful in 2wd of black ice, so you really cant go any faster or stop any better than an ordinary car on that sort of mixed surface.

I would defo try it and see, on the manuals its fine to do that (especially with the push button ones). Maybe the handbook is your friend here also

I also have an auto and you can put it into 4H on the move without issue.

I can confirm in the high range 2x4 and 4x4 swap on the move. Between ranges neutral and brakes on.
