I had the same dilemma a couple of weeks ago.
Squeeze the barbs on the prong together with a pair of long nose pliers and give them a decent tap with a small hammer and they just 'pop' out.

There should be three fittings on the top of the grille that attach it to the shell, what do they look like?
Once you have those off, just pull the grille upwards gently and it should come out.
