CB Radios to PMR Radios?? was created by Adamski
I have a pair of these Motorola PMR radios which have channels 1 - 8 then 38 sub channels within each one (i hope that makes sense  ):

I understand that the 8 channels on the PMR radios have the following frequencies:

1 - 446.00625 MHz
2 - 446.01875 MHz
3 - 446.03125 MHz
4 - 446.04375 MHz
5 - 446.05625 MHz
6 - 446.06875 MHz
7 - 446.08125 MHz
8 - 446.09375 MHz

and what I am wanting to know is will I be able to communicate with people who have CB radios mounted in there cars, or do they operate on different frequencies and I will only be able to communicate with other PWR radios?

I hope that all makes sense as I dont really have much of a clue about this stuff.

I don't think they are compatible as they work on different frequency bands, but I might be wrong :S . Check out here for a comparison between the two standards:

- i think it's a bit out of date though as they say a license is required for cb :S :S

I've got the cb sorted in the Monty now and I'm in the process of getting a second system for the Jimny.

Having read a bit more in to it I think you might be right. Looks like CB works off 27Mhz and PMR work off 446Mhz :( .

I know when I went out greenlaning a few weeks ago, once of the cars had a CB radio which could pick up the sound from the PMRs bout couldn't transmit back to the PMRs.

Sorry - car mount CBs tend to be 27Mhz whilst the more recent personal radios are 446Mhz - so they do not inter-work

Never mind, thanks for the info Martin. Do many people use PMRs in their cars? Will many people be taking PMRs to Tong? Could it be worth agreeing a channel before we go so that we can all communicate?

We use PMR and also CB.
PMR radio's are very useful for sending someone off ahead to scout. .. or when winching and you cannot see the other vehicle.

CB's for when your party gets separated or you are running in smaller groups
