If it's winter conditions that have got you thinking, then buy some winter tyres and a hatchback, as it's not good to use four wheel drive on tar, and how often are the roads ever completely snowed over?
There was a similar thread recently, and there were a lot of folks chiming in about how great the Jimny is, etc, etc. The Jimny is a geat vehicle, but only in the niche for which it is designed. And that niche is certainly not as exclusively an on-road commuting vehicle.
Before I get flamed as a Jimny hater, I love my vehicle: Next year I'm in line for a new vehicle. What am I going to get? Suzuki Jimny off the showroom floor.
Balance is needed in threads like this, K3sun will be forking over a lot of cash, and needs to know what he's getting into.

That kinda sums it up... 3 of us in it, downhill on the highway, knowing that if something went wrong we'd be in big trouble. In the flat, the most i've hit was 145kph..Should be about 90mph.
As Venter said,if you dont need it, there's far better choices. At least try it before you buy one.
It is a great car for what it is, but it wasn't made for city comute.
Personally speaking, i dont really need one for my daily routine, i just wanted it really bad, ever since i first saw a samurai as a 3ft tall kid in the late 80's, the jimny was just the progression of that desire. But i know i probably be just as happy, if not more driving a miata or a civic 1.8 vti. Hell, i would even like an early 90's primera gt 2.0. But then when the weather turned foul an the puddles got deeper, when i go over a speed bump at speed or when i fail to notice the big pothole, or when i go on vacation and feel limited to urban settings, then i would be really unhappy . Plus, it's an emotional thing. The wife loves it as she also feel in love with suzuki's 4x4s as a young lass, but my brother hates it. But he drives a diesel focus sw, so he knows jack shit.
I love the looks and character of the thing, and i love that it lets me do stuff i wouldnt with a regular car, or even just knowing that ability is there if i ever need it, but its a trade off.
If you get one, you'll most likely start wanting to use for what it was made for, but for the budget you have...Hell no. Eithe the fastest thing you could buy or just buy 2 cars, a 1.0turbo fiesta, and an old jimny, samurai or panda4x4

joking aside...are you sure you know what a jimny is like?
i use mine as a daily driver, and only do any sort of off roading during the ocasional weekend or when i go on vacation.
i love the car to bits. it's simple and honest, but it's slow, bumpy, small, no luggage space, and thirsty considering how fast it goes.
but as far as an offroader goes, and a brand new one at that, i think it's the best bang for the buck if you are on a budget. the most economical 4x4 available.
you need to look at it as a 2-seater with the ability to take 2 extra passangers on small trips every once in a while.
going on vacation with it? get the back seats down to make room for luggage.
need to go shopping for groceries? 2 or 3 bags in the back before needing to lower the seats or puting stuff in the back seat.
going on a trip? top speed...i've hit 100mph on mine but anything above 60 to 70mph is noisy, thirsty and dangerous. if at all possible, avoid highways.
fuel consumption... i normaly do 400kms with around 35l...around 250 to 280 miles. i average around 7,5l to 8,2l in normal driving (fast whenever possible, ocasional redlining)...in an econo run you might get 6,5l but with a whole lot of effort.
cheap maintenance and very reliable. however, more expensive to service than a city car due to extra offroadyness.
not a relaxing drive unless you keep it below 50mph.. it's unstable and wayward due to suspension style. you cant be distracted for too long.
i love it, drive it every day, 40 miles round trip to work, 300 miles to vacation destination no problem...you just can't be in a hurry getting anywhere. it's only me and the wife, and she has a aygo, so if we need to take more people with use or get anywhere faster we use her's.
unless you are willing to make some compromises, it's more of a second car, a weekend toy. just for driving around town, it's agile and easy to park, nice to get at those unorthodox parking spots, and tough when the road gets bumpy. however, for half the money any city car will be easier to drive and cheaper to run.
either way, if you're getting one, i'd buy used. a used one in good condition will cost you a quarter of the price..maybe less if you're willing to risk it and then spend a bit of money bringing it up to snuff. that way if you regret it you wont take a big loss. or you can keep it anyway and buy a dacia sandero.
the jimny is a car you buy with your heart, not your head. if you don't need something that though and if it's just to drive around town you'd be better of with a city car or a suv like a dacia duster or something...
Everything he said. +1
I personally had the thoughts given which is why I have a Mitsubishi Pajero Junior.
An upside is to get a pre 2001 Jimny for cheap road tax.
