Have had a few problems with vibrations and worn joints on my 2006 Jim. So l made a phone call to Dave Mac props and spoke with Keith. As people know the front sliding cv joint on the prop is not a serviceable item, so in discussion it was decided to modify this to a u/j set up. All the new joints including the spline are able to be greased,
and the 2 u/j's are renewable. Received the finished article this morning and very pleased.

According understand a CV joint needs to be replaced by a double-cardan u-joint

Hi Gustav, do you know the reasons why? When measured mine has more movement allowing for more articulation than the standard prop. My Jim is in standard trim with only 75 profile tyres fitted. I have run this on road and off road at the farm with no problems.

Take a look at

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constant-velocity_joint

for the reasons why.

A shaft with a UJ at each end will be fine (it is actually a double cardan shaft, but the problem is the two ends don't usually have the same angle from the main shaft), it will tend to rob power, and vibrate at large angles though, but likely you wont notice off road.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Thanks for the link, it is one l looked at before embarking on the mod. Have to say at the moment there doesn't seem to be any loss of power or vibrations, certainly a lot better than the old original. It will be interesting to see how it continues to perform over time.

Have to say what a crock of crap what he has done is far better than that rubbish rear CV thing and as for robbing the engine of power really you honestly think you could notice it i dont think so well done KJS nice job in my book we would run SJs with SPOA on standrd UJ slider propshaft with no problems what so ever



My truck on full droop chassis and drive line built by Rob Storr Double Decardon propshafts none

Gustav, thank you for the link and Dave thank you for your comments. Davemac propshafts did a good job for me and from all the comments on various forums are a well respected company. They knew what the shaft was for and the use it was going to get and their solution was the shaft I got. As I said before, it will be how it continues to perform over time. The Jim is used on a daily basis on road and off road about twice a week.

Just cannot for the life of me see why anyone would suggest a double Decardon shaft for a jimny with no lift exspensive and totally un required as i say nice job mate keep up the good work :)

we've got this on a 4" lift with out any problems





also if you fit a rocklobster you fit a front sj prop that has two ujs
