Hi all -

I have taken the plunge and purchased a 2009 Jimny manual after a lot of deliberation over a wether to go for a Defender or a Jimny. I pick it up from the dealer next thursday :). I have a couple of questions:

I hope to take it off road to see what its capable of - do you have any events or meets in the Surrey / Hants border area? I have seen Broxhead MOD mentioned but nothing in the near future. Are there any of you who go green laneing in the area that I could tag along with?

It will be my daily driver so I will need to keep it fairly standard, but are there any minor mods or accessories that I should make / purchase?

Last question, I hope to tow it behind my motorhome. I can do this either on an A frame or on a trailer. Is it possible to tow a Jimny on an A frame or will this cause problems with the 4 wheel drive system?

Thanks

John

according to the hand book you cannot tow a jimny on an a frame or towing dolly unless you lift the rear wheels off the ground or take the prop off!
guess you could put it on a dolly backwards but then you would have to find a way to lock the steering - think the easiest way is a trailer

This would sound like the perfect excuse to have manual locking hubs on the rear has anyone ever done that ?

Welcome aboard!

What's the reason for not towing on an A frame anyone - other than it's technically illegal unless for recovery purposes but no-one seems to worry!

The diff is at the same angle - does it matter that the gearbox and transfer box are being turned by the diff not the other way around?

Many people have towed SJ's on A frames without issue - what's the score with the Jimny? Did they advise the same on the SJ?

I don't know!

I think the problem is that the Jimny has no neutral on the Transfer Box. Therefore you are turning everything, diff, transfer box and gearbox (output shafts). Whilst you could say this is the same as any other car (except for the transfer box) they seem to strongly advise you not to.

I think you have the answer there Martin! I did not think of that - I could never get neutral on my old SJ410 and neer needed it but that would be why it had it!!!

Now I have an SJ transfer box as my Rocklobster so could possibly get away with a long distance tow if the need ever arose.

Whipping off the rear prop and sticking the front hubs into free would also have the same effect but takes a bit of faffing!
