Hi Folks,
I've just recently got my hands on a jimny, must say, after 20 odd years of Land Rover, these things are so different.

Ok, a slight problem with the jimny & a dilemma for me.

Drivers side swivel leaking (for leaking see pi$$ing out), wheel bearing is rocking quite a bit. I know the bearings can be tightened, hopefully the king pins are sound.
Now for the dilemma - the swivel is quite badly corroded, obviously knackering the seal, now should I do the work & rub the swivel down with ever finer emery & hope it seals OR try a& get hold of a new axle??

Anyone have any opinions or experience?

There is your problem straight away, you are thinking Land Rover.

Landrovers have oil filled swivels so the large seal is important as is the cleasiness of your balls!

Jimny Swivels are dry, therefore the condition of the seal/ball is less important. The seal acts as a steering damper and dirt seal.

The wheel bearings CANNOT really be tightened. The nut puts pressure on the bearing central sleeve but not really the bearing itself in the same way as the original SJ series taper bearings.

I would bet on it being the Kingpin bearings and you really should hope it is as these are much easier and cheaper to get than wheel bearings.

this is normally a very minor problem for a Jimny and shoudl take abot 2 hours max. the first time to cure. I can do them in less than an hour now. I would not change an axle for this problem

Looks like I'll have to do the driveshaft seal then as the oil is practically running out.

Not a bad price that at all.

Think I'll have me some & a seal if you do them, only thing I need now is a free hour or so to get it done.

Bloody annoying at the moment, even thinking of breaking it for spares :(

Insurance quotes are a laugh, anything from £800 - £1200 :ohmy:

Annoying thing is - other car is................an X5 B)

Anyone know any cheap insurers, using the jimny as a 2nd car?

dont know where you have got those prices from mine is £235 plus 1 named driver and its modded to the max granted i have a 7000 mile limited but hey who wants to drive a jimny further than 7000 a year. Give premium choice a ring they like you to have mods on your jimny :-) o and they dont use no claims you can generally only have no claims on one vehicle at a time. Hope this helps

try Adrian flux or the RAC
if it is for week end off roading then keep the annual mileage low
Ours is a second car cost £300 fully comp with no no claims and all the mods declared, I think Adrian Flux is cheaper

Welcome to our world - a world of fixing kingpins and getting jibed by Landrover owners.

Jimny's and Suzuki's in general are fun little offroaders but are somewhat different to Landrovers. They don't have the power or weight, so momentum can be the key - until you get a rocklobster!!!
