Tyres and Insurance was created by Lee
Hi Guys!

I want to change the tyres on the jimny to BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2.
.
If they are road legal, which they are do I still need to tell the insurance company?.

205/70/R15 to 215/75/15

Is it classed as a modification? if the rims are still the same size?

Thanks!

Hi mate I'v just renewed my insurance and in the Modification section it only mentions WHEELS not tyres. So I dont think it matters what tyres you have on as long as they are road legal.

Is it a factory size = No - so you have to tell them.

Is it a different size to what you have told them you are running= Yes - so it's a different spec and you have to tell them - it's a different mod at the end of the day.

If in doubt, just tell them! My insurance co. knows everything about my Jimjam!

What insurance companies are you with?

I phoned them up and told/asked and they said the wont insure offroad I said I want to run them on the road and not off road and to insure on road only but they still said no.

Maybe its the way I said it? Im with churchill so are there any good companies that you know of thatwill allow it! I went to a 4x4 specailist which covers on road as well but wanted nearly £1700 per year.... Okay I am 21 but my current insurance for the jimny is a lot lower.

I dont want to be stuck with a jimny I cant do anything with :(

Any ideas?!

Thanks :)

Yes anything that's not standard :pinch: on the car from new is a modification. :(
As Nicho said try Adrian Flux just let them know your jimny is to be used on the road only, give the size of the tyres + make. ;)
Hope this helps.

I'm with Cherished Specialist Vehicle Insurance. Way cheaper than your quote and it's their bread and butter.

I'm with flux and just wrote them a big A4 list of every mod I could think of, Don't think the mods made any difference in price either. I think I just baffled the person on the other end of the phone and they gave up.
Have been with them for a few years with a few different modded 4x4's and they always come up cheapest and don't mind my mods.

If you do try Adrian Flux tell them you're a member on here or any club and they should offer a discount
