You can get the converter from goodwinch that does it think its about £200. I have gone down the route of having a 24v alternator and two batteries for my winch then running the standard alternator for the ingnition sysytem.

What winch do you have? Is it up to the 24 volts?

I have done a bit of research and chatting to friends, Running a 12v winch of of 24v reduces the amount of current drawn however burns the motors out quicker (approx 2 years heavy winching)

how did you fit a 24v alternator? any pics? my ideal would be to use the standard alternator but i think it isn't man enough

cheers

The alternator is off a toyota coaster its the same setup as rob at ORA had on his Jimny. It fits with a tiny bit of fabrication to the brackets. Not got the Jimny to take any pictures as it is at ORA having some work done. When i was building the truck i was looking at going 12v but changed my mind but i went to the local car electrics place and told the chap i was after a bigger output alternator and he listed loads that would fit in the space of the standard one that would be man enough to run one of the goodwinch boxes.

another question what batteries have you fitted? was looking at the Numax CXV-X but got a feeling i might struggle to get 2 under the bonnet
