Kirkynut - You are absolutely right. Gigglepin winches are very expensive, and yes even more with all the new parts they come up with.

But then you could look downunder. Flamin fabrications make an interesting solution to a twin-motor 8274. It looks pretty good :)

And have a look here. Triple-motor solution. Apparently called a Flamin Gigglepin :)
It's pretty fast B)

That is quick, but still an 8274. I've nothing against an 8274 except the cost of making it go that quick and the over run that will cost even more to resolve.

A really quick Husky with the worm drive that makes for a brilliant brake and unbreakable internals from the box would be awesome. A bit bulky but awesome - Mr Rafferty - fancy a new product to develop???

Hands up who wants and X-Winch???

I have heard that the Husky winch are tough built.

But aren't they insanely slow?
Which means not ideal for competition use i guess.

But yes, if someone could do something about that :-)

They are not quick but no slower than anything else with a decent motor in them. Their robustness without you having to replace every part like on an 8274 is what appeals to me and as I say, I have heard of a chap in blighty who has got one going to a little faster than a standard 8274 but have not seen it or know who he is to investigate much further.

With time and money spent, it could be developed into an 8274 beater potentially. I've no engineering background, so I am no expert. Someone with an engineering mind may take one look at them as tell us the reason why it has not had money and time spent on it developing it.

My point is, there must be more to life in the Winch Challenge world than the 8274 and Gigglepin.

Like I say, I have nothing against Gigglepin - good on them for doing what they have done, there is a reason why most people aspire to own their winches - but there must be more out there worth doing something with!

I get your point. And yes, I can see that the 8274 and GP winches are very expensive and often needs repairs.

Here in DK hydraulic winches are more common than in the UK, and the cost is about the same as a fully rigged GP winch, but much faster and tougher built. So, that's probably what I'd put my money on if it was for competition. But still a lot of money.

Though, secretly dreaming of a GP +60% winch

But a husky, perhaps with a faster running motor, around 8-10000 rpm could do the trick :-)

I don't know if the 1.3 in the Jimny will be powerful enough to power the truck and a hydraulic winch pump, but I don't know.

I'm playing a bit of devil's advocate with the winch business I know, but have made my point.

So, let's hear other people's dream Jimny set up's then!

You certainly have a point. I think at least a 1.6 or 1.9 TDI is the way to go for hydraulic winch.

Still interesting to hear others opinions on winches.

Are the Volvo axles portals???

If so, that's taking it to the extreme - portals on a Jimny!

I think I'd have trouble with the arches covering the tyres!

Volvo's are portals 1540mm track ~ 7" wider than stock. Some +ve offset rims would help along with some bushwacker style flares. Move the axles forward & back a couple of inches & whack on some 38" tyres (maybe 40" :woohoo: )

Now to just win the lottery
