I need help with lifting my jimny! was created by Skinhead
Hi all, im new to this site and 4x4ing so go easy please. In the next few week im planning to fit a 2" bodylift and a 2" spring lift to my jimny (im out of work at the min so im on a budget) so far i know im going to need extended brake hoses and shock extentions/repositioners. But is that everything???? Im told i will get away without the steering spacers? Castor correction bushs have been mentioned, but do i need them? An a prop shaft spacer has also been mentioned, do I realy need that? An is there anything else? It seems to be more an more an its putting me off! Do i need these things an what problems will i have if i dont get them??? Any help would be appriciated, thanks.

what do you want to use it for ? pay and play days/greenlaning? etc there are various choices depending on what you want to do, also what sort of tyres are you looking at using?

in which case i would scrap the body lift for the moment as all that does is give you clearance between the chassis and the body to make way for larger tyres. so for a 2 inch lift the ideal situation would be to get the whole sherbang ( new springs, shocks, radius arms, panhard rods) but for this you are looking at about £1000+

However it can be done a lot cheaper by using spring spacers and shock extenders then all you would need to do is extend your brake lines and get some caster correction bushes to stop the jimny death wobble. i would also recommend if you do this to get new springs as depending on the age of your jimny the springs could have sagged a large amount.

hope this helps

Well i certainly havnt got a £1000 to spend on it, ill stick with the second option! An as for the bodylift, im only really getting it for the look, i like the high look. Im hoping to get the bodylift kit abit cheaper and a mate is going to help me fit it. I think i will leave the castor correctors for now an maybe get them on when i have abit more money. My jimny is a 2000 with 96k miles. Thanks mate

no worries a body lift is dead easy. if you want the look you need to fill out the arches a bit so maybe consider some bigger rubber. as an idea i have a 4.5 suspension and +2 body lifts and 235/85/16s (32.5ish) look just right

A body lift is fairly simple, the only problem is to slightly bend the transfer box lever slightly forwards. Now i've done mine, I could easily do one in less than an hour.
You wont need a prop spacer, only if you are using castor correction arms for more than a 3" lift.
With a 2" lift id recommend castor correction bushes.
As for the age and mileage on your jimny id change the springs as the original springs will have sagged easily by a couple of inches.
Get some rear shock brackets as your shock bushes wont last long without these.
