Will be getting the Machine Mart bridle shortly. But I have a question. I don't think I will be using a shackle to connect them both together.
Just pass one end of the bridle through the loop on the tow rope. That way if the bridle snaps there is no 1/2kg of shackle heading at rapid speed towards the kind person who is trying to help you out of a hole.

Correct, minimise the joins and shackles in any recovery connection, spread the load with a bridle.

Pass a stick through any rope joints so that if it tightens you can pull the stick to loosen the joint otherwise they can be impossible to separate.
