Tyre Black. was created by wanderinstar
Years ago an uncle of mine, who was an original coach painter by trade, used to mix cellulose paint with loads ov thinners to finish of the tyres when he repainted a car. Apart from using the proprietary Tyre Black, is there anything else that can be used. Smooth Hammerite with plenty of white spirit?

Use the proper stuff. The spray on wet look stuff is good but makes a mess of your wheels when the brake dust clings to it. You can get the meguiars stuff that has an applicator too to prevent the mess.
Only thing i put on my tyres now - mud

Mine have something on them that i have tried to brush off with car shampoo solution. Wouldn't shift it. Supergaz was saying it would most likely be clay. Just wanted to make them match up with newly painted BLACK rims.

I wouldn't use any thinners or paint on your tyres, it will make your rubber crack and perish.

Armour All Tyre stuff is good. Spray it on and leave it.
Doesn't wipe off like the paint on tyre dressings. The dressings ruin sponges when washing the car too!
AutoGlym bumper and rubber care works well too, applied with a piece of sponge.
