Nicho,
I bought a winch off ebay (second hand) came on a cradle with a 2inch mount. I got some 2inch inside box section from the local blacksmith (pretty scarce that size without a seam on the inside) and made up a front mount, still to do the back. Great idea, stows in the back, no extra weight on the front all the time, never mounted on the road, keeps the winch like new cos it doesn't get covered in salt spray and stops it getting nicked! I'll post some pics when I get back to work on the 9th.
Cheers John.

Great idea for occasional use but it would ruin you approach and departure angles.

The pictures in the link look like its aimed more at working trucks than serious off road use.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

here are some photos, I tried to get a bracket with the 2inch socket but the one for the defender cost £1000000.00, too much to cut up so went the DIY/Blacksmith route.

what have you done with the power cables? - is there a socket behind the bumper?

Yup, downside - the solenoids are attached to the winch, upside - only need to run two cables (= one anderson connector) to the back, when I get round to it.
