Which jimny ? and hello was created by j45on
Hi guys
I am looking to buy a jimny next year as I have the off road bug again
But I am a bit confused about which one to go for auto or manual ? I fancy an auto but is it as modable as a manual ?
Which engine ?
I don't want to buy a newish jimmy auto vvt for example then find out I am limited for mods
Here is my last suzuki a v6 vitara I owned and modded a few years back

Welcome to bigjimny.
Nice vitara! I've not had the balls to take my GV off road! But the jimny is very capable off road however poop on the road compared to a vitara.
Auto's are very good off road and no problem with mods. All jimnys need lower geared transfer boxes to start with which is possible on the whole range by fitting rocklobster or mini lobster SJ transfer boxes.
Jimnys after 2001 ish suffer less from rust, but always check around the bottom of the boot where the tools live.

Martin
2003 M13 early KAP build.
3" Trailmaster lift with 1.5 Spacers on front
Customised winch bumper and roll cage
235/85R16 Maxxis Bighorns on 16" Rims, 4:1 Rocklobster, Rear ARB locker and on-board air
Corrected arms all-round, rear disks, Recaro seats and harnesses
One of the advantages of an auto is that it can cope with larger tyres without modifying the transfer box. However it will still have a tendency to roll away down on hills.

I would say the best engine is the twin cam non vvt engine - cam chain not belt - and the best box combo is the pre push button transfer box and auto gearbox - easier to fit a Rocklobster to.
That would be my perfect combo. I've got a manual though and it's ok but I'd prefer an auto and learn to use my left foot on the brake.
Your Vit looks great. I'll be helping my neighbour mod his Lwb TD Vit over the next year to like yours.
