New Jimny Owner.

Hi,
I am just about to become a Jimny owner. What mods would you fit for off road work and possible some greenlaning.
Was thinking of these.
2" body lift
Decent set of tyres (any ideas)
Lock-Right Diff lock.

What sort of money do you want to spend?
Maybe a 2" suspension lift will be better than body lift, this could be done with a full kit or just spacers to keep costs down.
If going big on tyres consider gearing = Rock Lobster = Expensive.
Will you do many road miles? Fitting some mods may make your jimny terrible on the road, Especially a Lock-Right diff lock.

From my limited experience i would say one of the best things to get is a decent set of mud tyres. The Jimny is very capable from stock but wont be any good in the mud on road tyres as iam sure you know. They dont do your fuel economy any good so consider having them as a seperate set. 2" lifts are fine but most people sujust a 3" lift, HOWEVER you realy need to spend out more getting the car to drive ok and not lean over to one side. Such as corrected radius arms, longer panhard rods and brakelines. With a 2" lift you only realy need castor correction bushes put in the radius arms, this will give you back the self centreing off the steering. Apart from that it would just be new springs and dampers, and maybe a steering damper if you go for larger tyres. I surpose it will be down to your budget and how much work you want to do. Basically a 3" lift will cost more than a 2" lift.
I run Insa Turbo Sahara's in 215/75/15. I think this size is regarded as the biggest you can go with out having to start changing gear ratios. A 2" lift will allow you to run these with out the risk of them rubbing on the arches ( i think :blush: )
As for the Lock-right i have no experience of them, iam sure some one will give you the heads up on them.

Sorry, when i said 2" lift i meant suspension lift not body lift. supergaz is probably right, better off with a suspension lift than a body lift.

i would go for tyre size like nobby22 said, or 235/75/15. i have 31" with no rock lobster and it hardly moves

stay away from the body lift its a pain.

I agree on 2" suspension lift. I dont care for BL at all. With trailmaster lift you will improve the handling and ride as well fitting a bit bigger tires.
I have seen jimnys with 2" lift, 30" and 2x lockers outwheel anything

I started off with just a set of A/T tyres and it went any where I wanted it to go they are a very capable little machine, you will be very surprised. I now have fitted a 2" KAP suspension lift with ES1000 shock absorbers, and i actually think its a lot smoother ride apart from the it feels like Im sailing a barge down the road.This is all you need to get to be honest in my opinion, but it all depends on how extreme you want to go & in most cases how big your pockets are. Im going to get some castor corrected front bushes and a steering damper as i use mine for a daily drive to work which is a 25 mile round trip because the wife has the nice car until the white stuff comes and then she wants the Jimny.

How have you been breaking your radius arms and how will a difflock save you doing so?
