I was initially thinking that I needed a snow plough. Really though I'm thinking I need a salt spreader first. Those Towbar mount ones are nice but expensive. I was thinking more along the lines of this - Agri fab towable spreader . Has anyone got any experience of using one of these for spreading salt?

I love the Ploughs above - a nice bit of engineering!

You could probably hire a grass seed spreader - and try it!

I would think a spreader would be easy to make. Just a conical hopper (made from a plastic chemical drum) sitting on top of an electric engine fan with the blades shortened a bit. The movement of the car will hopefully move the grit through the nozzle. (The fan is being used to centrifuge the grit, not to blow it). 270 degrees of the fan needs to be surrounded by a cowl so it doesn't spray your car - again make it out of the plastic from the chemical drum.

Ok, I'm thinking Towbar first - Tow with trust do a detachable Towbar that takes a normal tow ball I think. Then I'll attach a ball and pin to that. The spreader I think ill get is the Turfmaster like the look of the big wheels on this one.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Those spreaders are bigger than they look, that is a Jimny isn't it?

 Is it just me or does anybody else think the fork lift plough attachment looks, err well dodgy... 1st off is a fork lift especially like the type shown above really designed to dive on ice and snow. And secondly with the solid design of that plough coupled with no suspension on the fork lift, hit a curb or hidden solid object and :S Love the Jimny one although dont think much use for it here :(
