MOT Emissions was created by SpeeLaT
Anyone have a problem with emissions on their Jimny. Mine Just failed Tester could not find the car let alone the Brand in the testing Database and failed the car because it could not get lower than 0.46 on CO. Mine is a 2000 bog standard. I could not find any specs for what the car should be, and assumed the tester was using generic data.

Mine has failed emission test 2 years running but I have a friendly MOT tester so he let it go through :-)

I haven't had any problems on my 2000 Jimny but I know the lambda and the cat are both now pretty old so I would expect emissions to cause me trouble at some point.

Was the car nice and hot when they did the test?
You could try some injector cleaner and often taking the car out and giving it a good thrashing just before the MOT can help too!

Also when was it last serviced?

As above, a typical reason for failure is the cat not being hot enough.

If he can't find it on his database though he's not up to much either, its not like its a rare car is it.
I do know that new regs have been introduced for fitting replacement cats so i wonder if he's just used generic data as you say. Call him and ask what he did before exploring anything else.

Car has just been serviced and I had already done the injector cleaner thrash prior to the test. Apparently no Suzuki car is in the Emissions Database the Tester has to do a default Cat Test. This is step by step procedure set out on the testing machine itself. However the pass appears to be CO 0.30% , HC 200PPM and Lambda 0.9-1.03 all at between 2500 - 3000RPM.
It did eventually pass but only when it was done using the Default Cat Test and only just.

Mine failed on the CAT last year, a new one solved it.

Hi,

Just thought I would mention that high CO2 readings can be as a result of a hole in the exhaust. I had a tiny hole, less than 2mm, and the car failed on CO2. Stuck some exhaust putty on the hole, and hey presto passed straight away.

Lamda on the other hand does tend to suggest a failed cat. Could also be a failed lamda sensor or cat not hot enough. My pennies worth, is be careful changing the cat for an after market one, they are not as good as the manufacturers ones, and can cause EMLs to come on and will fail a lot quicker.

This is true. I paid only £150.00 fitted for a replacement - bargain basement price! I wondered how long it would last but it's done a year. I dunk mine in cold water regularly though, and no CAT likes that, so I reasoned that it may be cost efective to hve a cheapie put on ratherthan ruin an expensive one by abusing it.

December - February this last winter I was breaking ice when offroading through water at our club so the CAT really couldn't have liked that!!!

I gather that MOT means something to do with an annual roadworthy scheme? Glad they don't have anything like that here in Victoria, would sure cramp ones style ;)
