My first "Pay-N-Play" day

I finally got round to doing some proper off roading in my Jimny yesterday.
Mrs Goatboy and I spent a couple of hours messing around at www.devilspit.co.uk/

I must admit to being a bit nervous at first but the guy on the gate suggested we got out and had a walk round before trying anything, this was good advice!
So we saw a few likely looking tracks and a few very hairy looking tracks and went off to tackle some of the more tame routes...

I know everyone says it but WOW, I was amazed at what the jimny could do with just stock suspension and a cheap set of AT tyres. We only had one hairy moment when we went down a particularly steep section into a wooded area and I assumed there would be an easy way out, there wasn't! we got about half way out and got a bit stuck, a couple more runs at it and jimny pulled its way out though... pretty amazing really. (although everywhere was very dry so no mud to tackle)

I know loads more about driving off road now and I'm so much more confident in what the car will do. If you are thinking about doing it then just go for it, its great fun.

The only problem I really came across its grounding out on the deeper ruts in some sections, now I'm thinking bigger tyres and little suspension lift may be in order!

I struggle with some really deep ruts but you just learn how to get around it, i try and straddle them usually if theres room. Personally i'd get more experience as it stands before any mods, in the long run you will make the most of any future mods. The room under the diffs you gain from bigger tyres is negligable IMO, to put any tyres on to give any sort of real benefit will ruin your gearing.

Just enjoy it as it is and try some other sites, you'll be a long way off exceeding the capabilities of the truck. Big tyres and lift etc.etc will only get you so far.
As you've already discovered they just get around so well.
