Early in the morning when it is cold.... my little truck sounds a bit 'tappety'.
I have put in an engine flush and popped some new oil in and it seems a bit better.
Are the tappets adjustable or are they hydraulic?
Was thinking of repeating the process with a new filter.
Any thoughts?
If its the chain driven one it could be that the chain has streched slightly causing it to tap. We get this all the time at work on the Vauxhall chain driven engines. We usually change the chain, give it a good oil and filter change and then they run sweet as a nut!
I would have thought that the M13A engine has hydraulic tappets but not too sure about the older 8v engine.
I would also check that you are using the correct viscocity oil as if it's too thick it might not be filling the tappets!
They can be a bit tappity and there is a guide to adjusting them in the workshop manual so they are not fully hydraulic on any of the engines.
However I have also heard that the injectors/injector pump can sound like tappits as well.
