Its very low powered. Remember that a winch only works at its rated pull on the last layer of the drum, it will be a lot less powerful on the top layer. You can multiply its pull by using a snatch block, a snatch block link will incress its pull to 7000lb on the last layer.

You would not be able to pull stuck Landrovers out but you could recover yourselve from a lightly stuck hazard.

Would echo what Martin says...How much power you need depends on what you intend using it for...If you doing serious off roading and comps ect, you'll be better off getting a good quality winch of about 8000lb or more...

For more mundane once-in-a-while use, I'd say something like 6500lb would be ideal...I suppose you could go lower, but thats what I do look at...

Regards,

Peter

yeh a few people have mentioned this and 6500 comes in at most people minimum..

pretty sure this would be good enough but more money of course

cgi.ebay.co.uk/Champion-C8000S-12v-Winch...&hash=item43a3618292

or these are cheaper, but probably "cheaper"

cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEAVY-DUTY-8000Lbs-12v-RE...&hash=item2a0d2fafdd

ive noticed the motor power on the cheaper ones are way lower!

like 4.2hp on the champion vs 1.8hp on the longhorn or whatever.

I've got a 6000lbs on mine but it's slowish o.k. for getting myself out , had it a good few years but hardly used it, If buying again I'd go for 8 or 9 000 with a big motor, much quicker.
