Hmmm, just realised the BigJimny Meet is only TEN weeks away! I’d better get cracking! And prioritise what needs doing, and what can wait for later?... mirror guards for instance!

Slightly odd day today.. Brett's "Jimny Jaunts" group are up in the Lake District... and I'm not there :( I'm in the garage trying to get the buggy finished so I can rejoin his group soon... :)

I started the day with the box section door post -

Sat supported by an axle stand, I marked the outline of the door, and then marked outside of that for where it would eventually fit once the box had been trimmed to go around the door hinges and the contour of the body...

Something like that...

Pop it out with a special engineering (wood) chisel! ;)

Inspiration arrives from my lovely wife ;) B) (in my Jimny mug no-less)

Carry on cutting, test-fitting, marker pen, cutting, etc....

Get it right, and then start welding it up... 2" of weld later.... :(

Ran out of welding wire!! Got gas, now no flipping wire! In the house, order it online from Halfords (they do have their uses) and collect an hour later...

Then get back, crack on, and forget to take any photos!!! D'Oh! :(

Anyway...

Door post finished, welded in, wing top "bent" box section cut to length and welded in too, and A-pillar tube cut to length at the bottom end..

And snorkel and mudguard template popped in place...

Blimey! That was close! (Luck or good planning and measuring... you decide ;) )

Just about lines up with the door line ;) Hmmm, maybe it was good planning and measuring then ;)

I HATE snorkel's (heads)... I know they have their place on 4x4s and protect the engine from drinking water, but they always stick out to high and wide, ready for them pesky trees to step out into the 'lane and try and steal them! ;) :woohoo:

Add the tree wire and wing mount for a look...

Hmmm, it's still in the line of fire... even a branch sweeping up that stainless helicopter winch wire is goign to steal that snorkel head!

Hence, the original idea (photoshop'ed? NOooo! ;) ) of lowering the snorkel head out of the way, and hiding the angle of the snorkel head that's really designed for a D*f*nd*r!...

Plus, by the time any water hits that snorkel head I'd have drowned anyway!

We'll see... ;)

Hope the rest of the lads had a good time in the Lake Distruct and all got back safely and under their own steam... I'll be back with you all soon! ;)

I'm intrigued Dave - why have you put the snorkel on the other side of the car to the airbox?

I was wondering the same thing, or have you a grand plan for a turbo?

We missed you on the lakes weekender mate, some great lanes and light incidents on both days including broken transfer mount & snapped transfer stick on saturday to one car. Winches out 2 times saturday and once on sunday. We had 1 car in slip into a ditch (winch out again & lost wing mirror) and finally a snapped off CB aerial courtesy of Eversley  Nothing horrendous, but I will let Brett explain all in the blog...

No particular reasoning...?

..other than I'd already done the driver's side before pondering the snorkel... so it ended up on the passenger side?...

Replied by Paul_sterling on topic Dave's la(te)st buggy build...
Dave,

silly suggestion, but is it worth combining the left hand front roll bar with the snorkel, so that it does both? that way it isn't limiting vision too much on that side.

Paul.
