Well done Dave ;)

LOL, I had a Facebook message from my favourite sister-in-law (she's my only one, hence she's my favourite by default!) saying well done and enjoy your beer tonight...

But as Dan says, I said... NOooo... Today is still October... so I'm not going to wait until 00:01 as one of my shop customers suggested... but wait until tomorrow, the first of November ;)

Well, had a couple of Stellas last night... tasted alright, but the craving has hopefully gone now?

So no more beers in the week... probably have a couple on Sunday night when we come back from our Shropshire 'laning trip...

So, back to the build thread...

I replaced all the springs yesterday...

I won't bore you with loads of photos... they're all in my blog here if you do want to see them though (and all the measurements for TomDK too ;) ) - www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/jimny-gets-som...-boots/blog_327.html

New springs... JimnyBits +4" front diesel springs on the right above, they are going on the BACK of mine to give a +5" lift, which will hopefully settle with the weight of my mods / spares / recovery gear to give a +4" lift.

The left springs above are a pair of experimental +4" front diesel springs which have been fitted with spring spacers to again give a +5" lift on the front...

The easiest way I find of getting springs in and out -

REAR

FRONT

Is to remove both wheels and tyres at the same time, and support the Jimny on axle stands, then when you jack one side down to get the spring out, the other side of the axle can rise up and make getting the spring out easier. (you can see a yellow axle stand under the opposite end of the axle in each of the photos above to aid this...

To aid the radius arm dropping I use the standard Jimny jack to push them down, and inverted on the front so that the recess hole in the jack sits over the handy bolt head on the radius arm, and the recess fold in the bottom of the jack goes over the rib on the bottom of the chassis rail, as pictured above...

DONE!

It just leans back a touch to the rear right / offside by around an inch, so luckily...

My mate who is having the old springs needs four roughly the same length for his new project, so I'm going to use the very left spring above - the old driver's side spring - on the rear right / offside to level it out, and he'll then have four equally sized springs for his project, and then everyone's happy!

Ahhh...

Turns out my rear right spring was already the same length as the driver's spring off the old set...

So, the solution -

Who knew that?... I always thought the SuperPro spring spacers were an odd shape... it's to fit OVER the original rear spring seat and therefore hold the spring in place still... good idea! If only we knew?! Some instructions or pictures would be good... I've been selling them for years and never realised that (until I tried it!)...

LOL

Thanks Dave. Excellent work :)

But I can't quite figure out. First you measure the springs to be 16"/ 13.43mm wire and 16-17" / 12.89 mm.

Then later, you measure the springs to be 16.5" / 13.53mm old and 12.7mm new ? This made me a little confused  :P

Yes, confused me too a little...

As the rear springs are the same as the old ones, but the old ones have been on for 22 trips offroad / greenlaning...

The fronts are some experimental ones Rus @ JimnyBits had lying around...

I think they are basically the same as the old ones, only not sagged! ;) So they will be the same length at rest, only not fatigued? The back right (driver's side in the UK) was a half inch shorther than the new ones though...
