What's your 'other' car? was created by Caelite
Figured I'd ask.
Obviously (almost) all of us are Jimny owners. They are great little trucks. However I know a lot of members have other cars alongside their Jimnys, particularly where their Jimny is built up for rather extreme off road capability.
So yeah, what do you use your Jimny for? And what is your 'other' car (or bike) if you have one?
For me, I have the Jimny, it is generally for use and abuse for commuting through the Scottish winter. I also have an MX5 I take touring in the summer, is it a fantastic wee car, similar to a Jimny in a way that it is lightweight and simple & fun to drive, however it is also a colossal money pit and is pretty much the sole reason my Jimny lacks it's well needed roof rack and lift kit.

It's always interesting to see what others have and why!
My Jimny is my everyday car and is used for literally everything, commuting; shopping; and camping trips etc etc I acquired it after my SAAB almost didnt get me home several times during recent winters in the Cotswold hills. I miss the SAAB a lot, but I love the simple ruggedness and capability of the Jimny
I'm not sure itf it counts as its not on the road, but the 'other car' that sucks at my wallet the most is a pre-war (1932) MG J2 that I'm restoring. I've had it since the mid 1980s but a fire damaged it in 1990 and I shelved the project until five years ago.
I traced and met the first owner of this car and Im also now in touch with the son of the second owner!
Then there is my 1979 Midget... This was my second ever car; I owned it from when it was 6 months old and kept it until 1999 when I left the RAF.
(I should never have sold it). Luckily I found it for sale just over a year ago and got it back!
This is now mostly on a 'preservation order' due to funding of the old MG but I take it to various MG and classic car events around the country.
I was planning a trip to South Wales in it this summer - around St Davids as that was where I lived with it when I was just 21, but its got a bit of a cooling issue that needs to be resolved before venturing too far from home

Do they actually have summer in Scotland?
I had to pull this off of the internet....I couldn't find one of my own. I guess that speaks to how much I (dis)like driving it. Nowhere near as fun as the Jimny but it fits the family when we go places.
2017 Toyota Fortuner:

We have only just rationalized the fleet. We have Ermintrude who is mine, bought new in January 2011 and preregistration converted to a van under a now closed tax scheme. She gets the brunt of the work on the farm that isn't heavy towing. She's also my weekend toy and doubles as a super fun hot ish hatch but being primarily a works van a lot of what I'd like to do to her I can't because it wouldn't work for farming.
Next is Zebedee a late 2011. He was bought about 18 months ago as a daily for mother and father. He sees some farm work but mostly just to trundle round the odd field. He's an automatic and has proved to be an absolute boon for my parents as their movement becomes more and more restricted by age. Zeb still has back seats and on the occasion of my needing to move more than a single passenger he steps up for Ermintrude.
Finally we have just aquired Florence, she's a 2013 5 door grand vitara with the 2.4. She's the heavier towing car and also the parents weekend and posh car. As part of her arrival we're also rearranging the trailer fleet too to accommodate our changing needs.

J999MNY is my only road going car, but most of the time im in the work van (2017 renault trafic), which is pretty comfy, quiet, economical, spacious, etc, compared to the Jimny
My Jimny is heavily modded (original bits are chassis/body shell, glass, dash & steering wheel, everything else is different somehow). This makes it excellent on tricky terrain, but fairly poor on the road. It is capable of about 75mph, but you wouldnt want to go much faster than 65! It also manages around 20mpg making long trips expensive as well as scary.
Then theres Ulysses, the pickup project, but thats still a work in progress situation, hopefully roadworthy by xmas, but who knows!
