We bought a 2.8 crd new in 2004 and it has been a fantastic car with very few problems. It has had a set of discs and pads, new alternator and a new battery. It's now done 85000 miles and has towed my Wrangler back and forth across France numerous times. Only problem is what to replace it with?! Good choice of car and tows well.

Manual VVT, 2 1/2" lift, ORA castor corrected arms, 2" ORA body lift, 4:1 transfer box, Uprated front shafts & CVs ERM , ARBs back & front 3.9 diffs, 6 point cage, ORA winch bumper - Superwinch EP9, ORA rear bumper, ORA axle truses, Diff guards ERM , TBR tank guard, Snorkel, Kumho KL71.30.9.50 15

We had a 2.8 crd auto in 2003 _ 2006 great for towing. Used a lot of diesel though.

Only probs we had were, it split a power steering hose. Oh and the boot glass lock kept popping open. New mechanism sorted it

Good motor

Gold Jimny the best colour (sold) :(

Big red Jimny 32" tyres, arbs, cage 5:1 transfer etc. (Sold)

Grey pick up Jimny
Turbo m13a, arbs, floating rear shafts, disc conversion rear, vented front conversion. 245 70 16. Winch, 3" lift, 4:16 trans hd shafts and CVS

This is my review of the 2004 Petrol Cherokee published in What Car (while I was living in Dubai).

3.7 V6 Limited 5dr
Peter Morris Date: 01/11/2004
Overall verdict 2 out of 5 stars
What's it like to drive 1 out of 5 stars
Running costs 2 out of 5 stars
Quality, practicality and equipment 1 out of 5 stars

Horrible, absolutely horrible. I had the dubious honour of driving the V6 for six months. The only good thing about it is that the fuel consumption is reasonable.

What didn't I like? The transmission was harsh, noisy and vague. It performed well off-road. Maybe not as well as the other 4x4's but you get what you pay for. My wife drove it for five miles, pulled over and vowed never to drive it again.

I stated that the transmission felt a bit vague, but that was nothing compared to the steering and suspension. It seemed if I drove over a matchstick the thing would almost lurch across lanes. The suspension, in true American style, meant that you were never sure if you'd make it out of each corner in one piece.

I thought that I may have had a pup, but I used another Cherokee while the regular one was being serviced. The same! If you like your cars rough (and I mean rough) and ready, then this'll do for you. If you want a vehicle that makes you feel confident and comfortable, then find something, anything, else.

Happiness was dropping off the beast back at the hire company the day I collected my LandCruiser. Yes, more money - but chalk and cheese.

Jeep Cherokee, you are the weakest link. Goodbye (and good riddance).

Sounds like a typical Jimny review by the usual car journos

Yeah, there's definitely a certain irony. It was the wife who chose the O2. :-)
