UK Green-Laners was created by Halford
Busy checking out some Green lanes to do and thought some Greenlaners may be interested to see what you can do using an OS Explorer Map and Google Maps,

Yes this is a mild run - and will be of no interest to the muddy boys (and girls)

this is an 18 mile 40 min run at Bardon Mill, Hexham, Northumberland NE47 7HU - anyone interested can download pdf files here A4.pdf or A3.pdf
;)

Not too far from me. Was over Slayley way at the weekend doing a few lanes, then ended up near Stanhope. The last section was extreme but the rest was ok. Think the last bit is called Seeingsike Lane or something.

Im not doing it again, didnt know if we would make it without tipping over. The part we did is a track from seeingsike road, very deep ruts.

Just been up seeingsike lane, changes every time I drive it. Had a BBQ at the bottom next to the water crossing then got stuck on the bit up to the first gate. The mud was about 20" deep so out with the waffle boards and off we go again then nearly tipped it over coming round the bend to the first gate, brown trousers moment. Straight up the rutted track no real issues other than grass banks about 2" from my window. Then got stuck near the top in a mud bath so put my mates ground anchor into the deck and fired up my winch and dragged myself out.
Then we headed to ireshopeburn and left up to coldberry lane?? Or something like that, the highest lane apparently, over the top and down the other side. Then spent 2.5 hours recovering a discovery and a defender from a mud bath we ended up in and it was pitch black. Was great watching the moon rise over the hills though and my mate fall into a muddy hole up to his waist.

And we call this fun

I don't want to be a miserable git (but I am) but if a lane is 20" deep in mud or there is a high chance of you tipping your truck over - do you not think you shouldn't be driving it???

Don't get me wrong, I've done Chapelgate before it closed and other challenging lanes and have got stuck and used waffles and a winch etc, but muddy messes don't get better by us driving them, hence voluntary TRO's exist. Cars on their sides leak oil and break glass all over lanes (not every time I know but there is a fair chance).

We have enough people wanting to stop us using lanes without giving them ammunition and then posting it on the interweb for the haters to find us in their eyes "boasting about it".

I'm not having a pop but just ask you to think before you drive a lane like these and certainly before you post about ones that have been a little dodgy to drive if you got caught out etc. I mean - ground anchors on Greenlanes! Come on! Get to a pay and play site people!

I'll stop and get off my soap box and shut up now!

Ah, it just gets on my nerves sometimes!

We become our own worse enemies!

You can drive a greenlane for a challenge. Read Dave's blogs on the Bits4Vits website. They drive challenging lanes and have to use all sorts of tricks, like lockers etc to go the hard way up a lane rather than down. However, when you look at the lanes they drive, they are rock and hard bases that will not suffer from use like a muddy, rutty lane. Their difficulty lies in being cross axled, not lack of grip due to the ground being a mess.

If you are considerate towards walkers etc, there should be no issues in that.

It's boggy messes that are the obvious issue.
