Site upgrade was created by mlines
I have just had notice that the version of software this site uses goes out of support at the end of the year.

This means I have to upgrade to the newer releases in order to keep within the support programme.

I run two other sites on the new software and it works ok so I am not anticipating any significant issues during the upgrade.

However, the key thing that seems to fail is the layout (Colours, location of items, links etc.). Therefore you can expect to see some weird layouts and colours etc. You may even see some "default" text appear from the installation process. However clearly the forum and shop are the key elements of the site and I will concentrate on keeping these running even if they look strange for a while.

I will try the upgrade over Christmas break.

OK, I have practised the migration and finally got it working on a test system.

It will take me at least an hour to migrate during which time the site will not be available.

There are a number of post migration issues:

1 . The private message template changes, this means the link I put it to return you to the main website disappears. I will need some time to fix this.

2. The main site template seems to throw up some colour issues, I will have to eventually change the template.

3. The main gallery on the front page will be offline at first until I manage to sort the pictures.

I will publish a warning on the front page when I plan to do the upgrade.

Tried today for the full upgrade but could not correct the colour issues so I had to revert back to the old system

The site upgrade has completed.

As a user you may ask what benefit this has brought.

Apart from a few colour changes which could not be avoided, there are no real changes as far as members are concerned.

All the changes are under the hood with a complete upgrade of the web site underlying software (Joomla)

As the system had been so stable it was left running on Joomla 2.5. The suppliers of this code are ceasing support from the end of 2014 meaning that any fixes to prevent hacking or other vulnerabilities would cease.

Therefore in order to keep up the patching and fixing of the core software I had to move the system to Joomla 3.

This meant some modules and template items were not compatible and had to be changed and upgraded as well.

I hope this has not been too inconvenient. The positive out come is that the software is now in line with the current supported code.

Recent Topics - Right at the very top above the banner advert. I didn't see it at first either.

Yes, its right at the top of the page.

At present, the moment I move it down the page it reverts to White Text on White Background! This make it interesting to read and if you know where on the screen it is you can randomly guess where to click for the function you need.

I am still looking at moving it down.
