hey man this may sound funny but i work at an automotive store in Australia and if your just talking about the top bit with the ash filter in it then just get a pod filter and hose clamp it on, it will do the same job and look just as good if not better.

its the heat has gone to your head ;)

most land rovers i see with the conventional snorkel have the "head" pointing sideways along the screen rather than straight ahead to avoid sucking rain in along with dirt and other nasties.

can see the logic, also hit a deep ford to hard the water could come up over the bonnet run up the screen and down your forward facing snorkel

My snorkel faces backwards, just seems safer than facing forwards, if you hit a ford or puddle that splashes over the roof it's almost a garuantee that water will find its way into your airbox. Although a minor amount I still don't want to risk it. I know others that have run them facing forwards for years with no problems.

As jonesy said, heads available on eBay for around the 20-30 quid mark I'm sure I've seen.

The Safari style heads are designed to work facing forwards, there are slots to allow the water to run out and down the outside of the snorkel although they recommend that its rotated when driven in heavy snow:

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
