Spam

Hi Martin,
I'm sure you've noticed but there is a lot of spam appearing on the site at the moment.

Is there a way to stop the spammers joining up? Assuming they are not really people is it possible to have one of those "whats written in the box" sort of things or something?

Not the end of the world but it seems to be on the increase...

ETA: just tried to register a spam account and I now realise it sends an activation link to an email, couldn't remember, but doesn't seem to deter all spammers, maybe they are real people

I have tighten the anti-spam detection today, I notice that it has trapped some legitmate posts so I apologise in advance whilst it is "tuned".

When moderating messages a new "SPAM" button has appeared, please click on this rather than simply deleting the message as this helps "teach" the system to find spam.

I assume me reporting these dodgy posts is the right thing to do Martin.

I think I have managed to cut it down. I had 50 messages in the spam trap and I only saw one had got through.

The latest spammer looks to still be a registered user that Martin must have deleted just as I was about to report it.

you weren't posting about caned corned beef were you? Even though its called a spam filter it stops all mention of any potted meats.

I got spammed replying to that post too!

Im now doing 2 hours every night after work and as much time on a weekend as I can spare

Well, I just tried to open a topic containing a few pictures ... "You have tried to send spam to this site. An administrative alert has been sent."

I know users are the biggest problem always, but still ...
