14/02/09 - Andy's Rocklobster Conversion - Part 2

You will have seen that Andy is also going down the Rocklobster route (See here for part one). He is a bit further advanced in the process than me, I am still awaiting the mounting kit.

Andy has been doing his RockLobster on a budget and has therefore built his own mounting kit....

A very interesting feature of his mount is a cross bracing plate/bash plate. This has been designed by the ever resourceful Richard Wattam (of the speedo converter fame). The problem with standard Transfer Box mounts is that the mounts and Transfer Box form a bridge between the two chassis rails. Therefore any movement is transmitted through to the Transfer case itself, which is only a simple aluminium casting, ofen with disasterous results.

The picture below shows the problem.....the mounting point has been ripped out of the case.

Here is Andy's construction being painted and drying in the garden

Here it is being offered up to a Richard Wattam converted Rocklobster (note the superb speedo adaptor!)

Here is a photo of a Richard Wattam prototype.

So, all in all, a very econimic (home produced) mounting kit with some lovely innovations..
