I think it's always ET0 on stock rims.

That's hard to say where they pulled that ET5 and what rim is in question. I still believe it's ET0. Haven't measured it myself, but when car manufacturers make a list of specs of a car, they also tell what is the track width and that is measured between the wheel centers. That's why it should be measured with ET0 rims to be correct...

Is it stamped on the back of a steel rim, the offset?
I've never noticed on a steel rim.
It's usually on the back of alloys, moulded in. Well it has been on the alloys I've ever had.
