Suzuki found it could avoid the fine by simply dropping its one non-hybrid car from the range.  Had it kept the Jimny on sale, the fine would have worked out to £8,000 per Jimny sold.

Both Suzuki and Isuzu threatened the government in NZ to close up altogether when our "clean car standard"  was being put in place by our last government. There was also a "clean car discount" (The "Ute Tax" that has now discontinued) that the Swift etc. actually benefited from as they are such a low emmision vehicle (for an ICE), but now the threshold has tightened I don't believe it still qualifies. As they would have had to pay a fine of $45 (21GBP) per gram over the average of the whole vehicle range, it made operations in NZ very expensive. So far they are hanging in there as the new government is planning a reform of the CCS. Isuzu simply didn't have any low emmision (read: EV) vehicles at all to offset the utes they sell, along with the now defunct "Ute Tax" it would not have been profitable for them to continue.
