Jimny soft tops and Monsoon hoods

Hi all,
Been a while since my last post. Still got the Jimny and wouldn't be without it!

Bit of a heads up here for those that have the later Jimny softop with the VVT engine, like me. That is late 2005 to 2007 models. I don't think the more popular O2 is affected here.

I brought a replacement Mk2 hood set from Monsoon. Fitted the rear as soon as the postman turned up and two years later (this week) decided to replace the front section and found it doesn't fit!

On these later soft tops the original Suzuki front hood has plastic insert in the front of the hood lip, so that it mates up with the rubber at the top of the screen. The monsoon supplied version does not have this lip included and there is a 15mm gap at the front.

I have reverted back to original Suzuki hood while I try to get answer from Monsson. I'm not sure if they actually do one to fit these later models. The customer service is a bit lacking at the moment and they seem to be ignoring me. I will persist and hopefully get a replacement that fits. if/when I do i will report back or maybe someone out in the Jimny world already knows the answer.

I will try not to leave it so long till my next post.

Happy Jimnying!

Replied by Sprocket on topic Jimny soft tops and Monsoon hoods
Hi
I've got a Monsoon hood as well and also found the customer service lacking. When mine arrive most of the fixings were missing and despite several increasingly aggravated phone calls I never got the bits. I did have plenty of nuts and bolts in the shed so it didn't really matter.

The front section on mine was also very tight but once stretched in place was fine.

Sorry to hear that Sprocket.

This is the 2nd hood I have had from them. My original Mk1 was replaced by a monsoon and it it fitted and served me well.

My trusty old 2002 Jimny.

I couldn't help notice someone is advertising a hood the same as mine on ebay. (How do I link to ebay ads?)

Jimny hood

Seems others have had the same problem as me with Monsoon.

I did explain to the lady (at Monsoon) that I had just taken it out of the wrapping. If we were properly in EU, we would have 2 years warranty (on all consumer items) and some come back, but as we are not I have to appeal to her good nature. I would be prepared to buy just the front section, but think she wants me to buy front and back sections. I will contact them again for one last chance and report back.

There is nothing worse than poor customer service, why do we (in the UK) have to suffer so much poor customer service?

Cheers
Paul
