  • There are 2WD/4WD push buttons in the center console.

Swapping a button operated transfer box with a lever operated transfer box is one of many ways to improve a Jimny 3.

Advantages of each transfer box type

There are several reasons why a lever operated transfer box would be preferred compared to a button operated one:

• Lever operated transfer box is inherently more reliable (a lot less things to go wrong);
• The operator has full manual control and "feeling" when performing the shifts between transmission modes;
• Easier to diagnose the entire 4WD transmission system when something is wrong with the system;
• Much easier to perform an "on the field" improvised repair of a broken 4WD transmission system;
• Simpler to modify the 4WD system in order to enable 2WD-L transmission mode;

Reasons to prefer a button operated transfer box compared to a lever operated one:

• More space in the cabin between the front seats (for keeping a mobile phone there for example);
• It's more elegant and physically easier to push some buttons than to fiddle with a stiff lever;
