A post to document & share a few enhancements over the next couple years. This Jimny is planned as a very long term vehicle.

Below is the wife with the new Jimny. She had the priviledge to go pick it up from the dealer.

Nice. I know what you mean about long-term ownership. My Dreadnought is 10 years old in January and I still think of her as a new car.

First thing, she got proper rust protection spray. Even though we have a rather hot dry seasons without snow etc, we do live about 60km from the sea and often do visit.

I decided on a product called FluidFilm.
It is pure lanolin based.

I have the tools and bought the company's own spraygun withlong rubber/plastic tubes with propriety nosles etc..

Jimny is now fully undercoated. The long rubber /plastic tubes made it easy to spray inside cavities and chasis bars. The 360degree spray tips is just perfect spraying inside chanels / cavities.




Plan is to touch up anually.

This is the first mod on the new Jimny.
Fixing the Beep warning tone when the key is in the ignition and a door is open.

I had a simmilar mod on my gen3 jimny. With my new Jimny gen4 it naturally went the same way.

Most people just silence it by disconnecting an electrical plug in the steering column as per Bigjimny wiki

I want it still to work, but be able to control it to switch it off when I want. So Idea is to add a switch in the line for the beep sound.

So I got myself a blank push button switch to use. Only to use two wires for on of switch function.


Here you can see I just used heat shrink wrap to close off two wires I will not need. Only using green & red wire that open close circuit.


Then I cut the pink wire of the connection that most people unplug.


I then soldered in the switch into the pink wire and use heat shrink wrap.


Taped everything nicely.


Plugged back in the ignition/door open electrical plug.


And here is the blank push button from where I control if beep is on/off when key is in ignition and door is open. I deliberately chose a blank button switch as i want it to be under the radar. Here the switch is on (pushed in).

I'm also in SA (Jhb). Where did you get the switch from?

Added battery cables for second deep cycle battery in jimny for when going camping

Also added inline fuse as well as power disconnect switch
