Found "some" rust so cut a little more off




Started to build it into something

Can I pinch the pictures for a proper thread on the main website, things in the forum gradullay moved down the visibility and people are interested in tray backs.

Do you have more pictures of how the front came out, I notice you cut away the front grill.

the front isnt finished yet, ive still to mount the winch and fabricate a front to the bonnet to fill the gap in.

This is awesome - as you might have guessed I have a massive interest in seeing a Jimny trayback.

What did you do to fill the back of the cab in with? I couldn't quite work it out from the pictures. I'm sure when you say and I look back at the pictures it will be obvious but I can't work it out now?

Thanks, its still very much a work in progress,

the cab is sealed up with 2mm thick sheet steel, it welded to the original sides of the jimny, aswell as the internal box section metal work, the internal box section metal is to keep the jimny, in jimny shape, once we cut the rear of, the sides were super flimsy,

the internal box is also the the mounts for the top section of my 4 point harness.

the window is 5mm perspex, cut to the same size and shape of the original rear window.

the rear bed is made from 40x40mm box sectoin, it took 7 meters of box to make!!

theres also 3 metres of 1"x1" angle in there to with some 1" box section,

the rear winch mount its made from 2 100x50mm box section, one is welded onto the chassi aswell as the suspension mount bar, the front on is welded onto the chassis, i put a notch cut on the chassi rail so get a good cover of weld on it,

the top flat plate is 6mm steel, my fairlead mound is made of 6mm steel to.

Very much looking forward to the finished article. I would like to teach myself the art of welding and fabrication - or be taught - as there have been several odd little jobs I have had to ask others to do which I feel I could have got on with myself if I had a mig welder.

I don;t know if my balls are as big as yurs though Gary as taking an angle grinder to the bodywork is as scary as you like!
