Jimny 2008 - Battery Question

More

Hello folks, I have the following Varta battery that was in my Jimny when I bought it. All the info suggests an O54 battery for the Jimmy but the terminals on this battery are opposite to the 054s do you replace with and 054 and do the cables reach with the opposite layout or should I be replacing with something similar to this battery ? Thanks

057.  I had the same issue.  The wiki isn't right for most Jimnys.

057 is the correct battery size and layout. I have a Lion 155 fitted to mine (about 2 or 3 years ago, it's been alright), the battery I went for (155) was slightly more Ahr than the 057.

If you can wait 2 days go to Tayna (www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/types/049/), I used them for a big battery for my other car

or GSF (www.gsfcarparts.com/za042646), GSF also have a collection point off the Coast Rd.

If you can't wait go to Euro Car Parts.

Thanks folks. Yeah the online stuff is a bit cheaper. I'll probably try that. Thanks again for the advice. Hope all your Jimmy's are keeping everyone happy. Chris

I was lucky because one of the cheap online battery retailers is based in the same town as me, so I could pick it up and avoid shipping costs.  I went for a Yuasa silver YBX5057.

Tayna and GSF both have the Yuasa YBX5057 at about £70.  GSF have a depot at North Tyne Industrial Estate, Benton, that's quite close to you.

Looks a good battery as it is 50Ahr (and increased cranking current) rather than the more usual 45Ahr.  Yuasa was original fitment on the Gen3.

I think I will go for one of these when my Lion battery dies.

I always try to run Yuasa's on my cars, normally get them off Fleecebay or whoever is the cheapest at the time.

I fitted the YBX5057 from Tayna to mine last year - £78 including delivery to the Isle of Man. As mentioned, its a 50 Ahr, and definitely cranks better than the previous battery (which admittedly was pretty old, but was also lower output). Recommended. :-)

Will the YBX5057 fit a gen4 without any mods, or will I have to change terminals' diameter on cables?

Thank you for your expert advise.

All the above refers to a gen3.  I don't know what battery a gen4 takes.

I fitted a Yuasa HSB053 to my Gen.4. Terminal position was correct.
