2006 Jimny radio code issue was created by robs5230
Hi.
I have an issue with the factory stereo on my 2006 Jimny
The unit is the one with the clock and the Disp button.
For some reason it lost its code
I had a try at a couple of random codes, before thinking to contact the seller who did have the correct code.
The display is just showing a series of 4 double dashes in a line.
The power button does nothing.
Is there a procedure to allow me to enter the code to get the stereo working again?
Guessing as the seller knew the code, this may be a recurring fault
Not the end of the world if the unit is toast as I'll fit a new head unit at some point, thats a bit more up to date
Thanks in advance
Rob

Thanks
Yes the channel presets do enter the code
I just wondered how to clear it to enter as last night it appeared to be locked with 4 double dashes
I'll see what happens today and whether it will allow me to, as I now have the correct code
Cheers

My guess would be that the radio has locked you out following several attempts to enter the code. Most radios only let you have 3 or 4 goes then lock you out for a period of time. The lock out period increases with every failed code until it requires a long while to reset.
I don’t know how you reset this particular radio but there are some common methods to reset as follows:
1) Disconnect the power and leave un-powered for a couple of hours, then re-power. This will probably fail to reset the lock out, so try method 2
or
2) Leave the radio powered and switched on for 2 or 3 hours displaying the ——, it should then let you have another go at entering the code. If the display doesn’t change leave it on for another couple hours and/or press some of the buttons. If still no good power cycle and repeat.

After a search I found this on another repair forum, couldn’t say if it will work, but it’s worth a try
————————————-
this may be of help to you. the dashes being displayed indicate the security code has been activated.
As I recall, the factory code was 1111, you can try this first, but if it has been altered like mine to a personal code, you are stuck I guess. The code is four random numbers from 1 to 6.
Turn the set off with the power on/off knob.
Hold down the seek/track "UP" button and put power back on with the on/off knob.
This should cause the display to show "ENTRY" "0000".
Using the station change buttons 1-6, enter the code 1111 hopefully!!
The display will then return to "ENTRY" "0000", at this point enter the code a second time and you should get "CODE OK".
Up to 6 incorrect entries will lock the set for 15 secs. After 7 incorrect it locks for 15 mins. Hope 1111 works for you. Good luck!

Instead of 1111 use the correct code for your radio.

Hi Martin
Hope you're well.
Thanks for that.
Yesterday, it seemed to unlock itself and requested and accepted the code, which then made it operate normally
During the day driving around, the display looked a bit unusual and corrupted, but even this rectified itself
Guess the unit has an intermittent problem, but for the minute its ok
I'll look into another head unit at some point
Cheers

It was probably powered on for more than the lock out period, possibly 15 minutes, then it gives you another attempt to enter the code.

Does seem to be fine now in terms of code and playing, but the display still does corrupt every now and again, but seems to cure itself
