DAB radio was created by alexr
Hi - new here, so may be in the wrong forum. I would like to swap the radio in my 2008 Jimny for a DAB / Bluetooth capable one - any suggestions as to what is available and recommended?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. There's a few options available that just bolt straight in and even more that require a facia adapter. These vary depending on the size of the double din unit you choose or alternatively you can get a complete dash surround that converts to a true double din with square not rounded corners, these being fitted standard after the 2014 facelift. I have an after market Sony in mine and it's great but only Bluetooth not dab though they are available.

You need a different powered aerial for DAB. I believe there are a number of options from a small box you stick in the windscreen, to something that looks like a normal aerial.

In my experience with DAB. Signal is key, so I'd want to try and get the best aerial setup I could. Then just your pick of DAB compatible headunits. Which have huge variance in price depending on if you want a well known name or an unbranded cheap Chinese offering.

I have an Xtrons Double DIN with rounded corners (designed to fit straight in), Android unit, but they seem to have stopped doing it.

Most double DIN head units don't have the rounded corners so you have to do some cutting.

I use a stick on antenna, it works reasonably well. I have DAB in my other car with an external antenna, that doesn't really work much better.

I got a complete new dash surround (fascia) that allows any standard double Din to be installed without modification. Like Lambert I have a Sony with Bluetooth, but it's fine for streaming music from my phone / taking calls.
The complete surround is as good as the genuine Suzuki so no complaints, but it's £££££.
I got mine as part of a Halfords deal, head unit and install for a set price including adapters. The price for this was cheaper than I could get the surround alone, so they didn't make any money. I also worked for them at the time, so even got paid to fit it as I was the audio fitter

Yours being a 2008 should have a Clarion head unit which is not standard double din, it has rounded corners. So you need an adaptor or new fascia, or just live with the gaps, plenty do.

The good news is plenty of space behind the easy to remove fascia, so installation is easy once you have modified or changed the fascia.

Welcome along also.

From what I’ve seen, getting a good DAB aerial is really important for a strong signal. Some folks use stick-on antennas for the windshield, while others prefer the regular external ones. Both can do the job, but it really depends on where you’re driving and the setup you have.
