It is one of my pet hates a rattle coming from somewhere. I like to drive along and listen to the engine now and again or my stereo, but hate a rattle coming from anywhere.

It’s amazing that I have owned this Jimny since last October and never had a serious go at getting rid of the horrible rattle from the drivers side of the dashboard, instead just giving it a good bang when the rattle gets too much. I have seen other reports of rattles and strange noises so thought they all did it.

That was until this morning, it was raining and I couldn’t get on with anything else.

The main rattle was coming from the part of the dashboard in front of the driver close to the windscreen. There is a little plastic cover in this location, see photo below.

Once the cover is removed, I found a screw, the one on the drivers side was very loose, the one in the centre was loose and the one on the passenger side needed a small turn.

The result no more annoying rattle. I am sure this is going to be old stuff for many of you, but hope it helps someone.

Thanks for that. I am also not a fan of rattles and just accept that my Jimny just "talks to me" from various locations around the cabin. I do however have a temperature dependant rattle from the same location, so certainly going to take a look at those screws.

Great, glad I could help. My Jimny cab is so quiet now, it’s great.
I must find some rough roads/tracks to hammer down.

Going to check mine out now too...no doubt 21 years of not being touched has loosened them a little bit...

Nothing new here. Apart from, a dab of thread lock or even super glue will save your sanity when they inevitably come loose again. And they will. Ask me how I know?!

Sounds like you have been there and got the T-shirt Lambert.
I wonder why they come loose so readily? I tightened mine really tight, but will check it from time to time and put a bit of thread-loc in if the come loose again.

Checked mine tonight and two needed a turn, all done with a dash of thread loc as well just in case. Thanks DrRobin and Lambert, hopefully that's one less rattle.
