R72 gearbox overhaul was created by HUN
Hi.

I plan to get my spare R72 gearbox rebuilt within a few months. It had no noise just the gear change was a bit slow ie. I had to stop to select 1st gear. Therefore I suspect that it will need synchro rings, bearings and seals.
I could find rebuild kit here but without synchro rings.
www.onestopgearboxshop.com/products/suzu...l-rebuild-repair-kit
Can someone please tell me if this kit contains the upgraded (closed casing) bearings as I really don't know in details.
Where people generally get synchro rings from? Could not find any on-line.
I'd like to get all parts available before I take my box to a gearbox spacialist not to waist time for searching parts.

Cheers guys!

Hi Hun, sorry cant help if thats got the correct bearing, but I was interested in your comment that only selecting first when stopped was a prerequisite to R72 issues.
I have a 46K R72, no noises or grinding etc, but I cant select first unless I have stopped completely, then I get first with no issues.
Having never driven another manual Jimny and had just assumed this was a normal feature of this gearbox.
Is this not the case?
All gears select with no effort or grinding, I just need to stop to get first with no effort.

This could be a symptom of the linkage bushes being worn rather than a gearbox fault?

I run an R72 box and select 1st on the move all the time, off road. No crunching or trouble selecting at all but I do have a sympathetic ear and balance revs to speed.

I would suggest that you purchase only the rebuild kit and leave the builder to order any spares that are identified as spent during strip down. Yes they will make a mark-up on them but you won't waste money getting parts that you are guessing about...... though it does sound like a synchro.

Keep us updated, I'm sure I'll need it doing one day soon.....
