Our 2016 Jimny with traction control and in high 4WD and with the standard M&S tyres was able to go up a steep ice covered track to our house this week with no issues as did our Impreza with traction control and winter tyres.

Just thought I'd bump this thread to ask if anyone has any positive experience with the ESC on-road? When I was first getting used to the Jimny I had a couple of hairy experiences going round wet corners and I had another one today on black ice despite being very cautious. Has anyone with a newer Jimny felt it kick in and help in these situations? Seems like it could be a brilliant feature if it works well.

On our Nov 2016 SZ3 we have had the tyre pressure warning light on one occasion but no problem at all with the stability control. It was very icy on the track last week but we were in 4WD and no stability control light coming on.
On the other hand in our 2008 MX5 the light flashes on when we go from our unmade track to the road or when we are driving up the track and we drive over a rough patch.

Hi.
I got my brand new Jim just in December 17, and I love it! It has traction control that works pretty well offroad. It takes 1-2 seconds to get it engaged so when a wheel begins to slip I have to keep on acceletating and in a second or two magically we start moving again. It works in 4L mode even though with ESP OFF sign on the panel. Good illustration is here:

serg988,
thank you very much for your contribution.
This is an excellent demonstration video.
So it appears that we have been wrong here about Jimny's new ESC/ESP system.
If my newest conclusions are correct, that system works as a typical stability control system in 2WD-H and 4WD-H modes.
However, in 4WD-L mode, it automatically morphs into a traction control system like in many other newer 4WD vehicles (or like in the Land Rover Discovery 2 for example), which is active even if the ESC button is in the OFF position.
So, whenever an ESC/ESP equipped Jimny is in 4WD-L transmission mode, that system will automatically assist the driver as a traction control assistance, like in a typical cross-axle situation.
So, the good thing is that it is acutally usable in off-road conditions (but in 4WD-L mode only). The bad thing is that you can not turn it off in 4WD-L mode.
Am I correct on all this now?

I have just created a brand new wiki article which deals exclusively with Jimny's ESC and TC systems.
The wiki article is here.
I incorporated all the current findings into that article.
I welcome the feedback from the others on this matter.
